Mulyavardhan: Education Outreach Program

Shantilal Muttha Foundation (SMF) conceptualized ‘Mulyavardhan’-  a path-breaking value based - initiative on empowering children to exercise constitutional values. They operate in multiple district public schools across the states of Maharashtra and Goa. 

In the year 2023, the program began a new chapter in the state of Gujarat, and we were tasked with tailoring the program to this region.

Program framework

Mulyavardhan is no cost training model aiming to enable government run schools to provide child-friendly, values-based quality education and an environment to nurture caring, responsible and democratic citizens. This module is based on the values highlighted by the Preamble to the Indian Constitution; justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

The program unfolds in three phases. The program unfolds with teachers' training, followed by Heads of Schools' orientation in the Whole School Approach, and culminates in some teachers integrating Mulyavardhan ideology into the curriculum.

Gujarat Chapter

The Mulyavardhan – Govt. of Gujarat project, initiated in 2019, was paused due to the pandemic and will resume in the 2023 academic year. The first phase requires a deep understanding and analysis of the culture and values of the region, which would inform the customization of the outreach program and strategy  for this chapter.

In the team of 8, I was one of the three researchers assigned to this project and my duties extended to conducting user research, analyze data for insights, adapt culturally sensitive methods, and document comprehensive findings for informed decision-making.

Impact till date

As of Sept’ 23, the program has been implemented in 25+ schools of varying capacities, training 80+ which would soon have an impact on 4500+ students.
